Parental Coordination

A child-focused process to help separated parents manage conflict.

Parental Coordination

Parental Coordination (PC) is a child-focused process tailored for separated parents who need support to navigate conflict and communication.

It aims to reduce daily disputes, safeguard children, and establish effective systems for following Court Orders and implementing parenting agreements.

Essentially, PC is aftercare, post agreements or Orders.

We have 2 pricing options:
Either a package that is done over 6 months of sessions or we have single sessions that you can select from.

Begin the process by reaching out to schedule your initial consultation. We’ll guide you through the next steps and explain how parental coordination can assist your family.

We gather all necessary documents, consents, and any other relevant information to help the practitioner understand the family dynamic.

Each party participates in individual sessions to share their perspectives, concerns, and goals. This helps build a foundation for the coordination process.

A joint session is held to address co-parenting issues. The final agreements are drafted and provided to both parties within 24 hours for implementation.

Regular joint sessions are scheduled, either monthly or bi-monthly, to maintain progress. Additional one-on-one sessions and communication monitoring can be arranged with mutual agreement. Sessions are not confidential like FDR.

Our Process

The Parental Coordination Process is designed to support separated parents in managing co-parenting challenges. It begins with an initial consultation, where we outline how coordination can benefit your family.

Next, we gather all necessary documents and consents to understand the family dynamic, followed by individual intake sessions for each parent to discuss their perspectives and goals.

A joint session is then conducted to address key issues, with final agreements drafted and shared within 24 hours. To ensure continued progress, regular joint sessions are scheduled monthly or bi-monthly, with additional one-on-one support available as needed.

Unlike Family Dispute Resolution (FDR), these sessions are not confidential.

A Parental Coordinator assists separated or divorced parents in managing conflicts, improving communication, and ensuring that Parenting Plans, Consent Orders or Court Orders are followed. They help reduce tension and guide parents toward decisions that prioritise the children’s needs.

Parental Coordination is focused on the day-to-day implementation of parenting plans, while mediation is typically used to create or modify or formulate these plans. Parental Coordinators help manage ongoing conflicts, ensuring smoother co-parenting over time.

Parents who experience regular conflicts, communication breakdowns, or difficulties in adhering to a parenting plan can benefit from Parental Coordination. It is especially useful for families facing complex or ongoing issues.

In certain cases, a Parental Coordinator may be authorised to make minor decisions when parents cannot agree, depending on the terms of their agreement or a Court Order.

The duration of Parental Coordination depends on each family’s circumstances. It can be short-term to address specific issues, or ongoing for families needing long-term support to manage recurring conflicts. We offer either individual sessions or a package deal to suit your needs. See our Services and Fees page for more information.

Over time, Parental Coordination helps improve communication and cooperation between parents, leading to a more stable and peaceful co-parenting relationship. It reduces stress for the children by minimising conflict, while ensuring that parenting plans are consistently followed, creating a more predictable and harmonious environment for the entire family.
